Almost half of all businesses in the UK suffered a breach of IT security in 2001, according to figures released by market intelligence provider Key Note. The study found that 44% of UK businesses had suffered some kind of electronic intrusion arising from a premeditated or malicious incident - almost double the figure of 2000. Key Note estimates that the average cost of each of these breaches was £30,000. With 1.35m registered businesses in the UK, the study puts the combined cost of the attacks
