LV calls for stringent EU wide driving standards

A new report ‘The rise of EU drivers in the UK’, commissioned by car insurer LV, has revealed that the number of resident drivers from other EU states has risen by 270,000 in the last six years and HGV traffic from the EU has increased by a third.

Taking into account the cost of insurance claims, accidents and potential congestion the report estimated that the cost to the economy of foreign EU drivers will total £795m in 2008 - a rise of more than £100m from 2006.

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
