Amanda Blanc reveals sexism got worse as she took more senior roles

Amanda Blanc

The Aviva CEO responded to a story which showed that Aviva chairman, George Culmer, chided shareholders for inappropriate comments about Blanc and female board members at a recent AGM.

A story reported by the Financial Times showed that Culmer was “flabbergasted” by comments levelled at Blanc during the session and called them out as inappropriate.

Culmer reportedly took aim at individual shareholders for saying Blanc “was not the man for the job” and one who questioned if she should be “wearing the trousers”. Another shareholder had suggested the Aviva board would be good a “basic housekeeping” because of the number of women on it.
