News Analysis - Broker growth: A step up before the cuts

Businessman climbing staircase in the sky

In the last three months, the financial sector grew at its fastest since June 2007 according to research from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the CBI, which was good news for brokers.

According to the survey, insurance brokers saw a very good quarter for profitability and hiring, with fees, commissions and premiums rising at their fastest since March 2009. The survey also noted that "investment intentions for the year have strengthened noticeably." In particular, it said intentions in land and buildings have turned positive and have strengthened for marketing and IT.

Another sign of improvement was insolvencies falling to a three-year low over the third quarter of 2010.
