Who will pick up the bill?

The ULR market has long complained about the costs of credit hire. Steve Banner says there is now a growing shift towards insurance-backed schemes rather than credit hire arrangements.

The uninsured loss recovery (ULR) motor market is about to undergo
yet another upheaval with the launch of a car hire scheme by the
Association of British Insurers in conjunction with self-drive-hire fleets
Enterprise and National. "It's long overdue, and I hope it will help to
reduce the exorbitant charges being imposed on insurers by some credit
hire companies," says Paul Hurley, chairman of the Motoring Uninsured Loss
Recoveries Association (MULRA).


The move will place increased pressure on
