Insurers providing professional indemnity for accountants are having to deal with the tough stance taken by the various chartered institutes on year 2000. Shona Cronin looks at what this means for the market.

Those insurers writing professional indemnity for accountants, have
become accustomed to an ever present soft market. However, the sector is
now having to contend with the problem of year 2000 coverage.


The four chartered accountants institutes covering the UK and Ireland have
sought to protect accountants by insisting that all insurers which offer
PI cover to their members can only apply year 2000 exclusions to the
policy after "due underwriting consideration".


In effect, this means that all
