Law firm claims Quinn's woes linked to Irish economy

Hugh Evans, financial litigation partner at DLA Piper, said the move to place Quinn Insurance into provisional administration is an example of Irish economy woes "spilling over into the UK".

Mr Evans said: "As much as the FSA have said that it remains business as usual for Quinn customers, the reality is that lenders will be watching developments very closely, and some may choose to settle claims they would otherwise fight in order to protect their interests. Quinn also has a motor insurance business - thankfully for its customers, if it defaults on claims, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme will step in to meet claims in full.

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
