Santander urges mortgage brokers to tap into insurance

Bank Santander, through its brand Abbey for Intermediaries, has encouraged mortgage brokers to "exploit" the general insurance market, cutting premium levels in the home insurance sector in order to secure market share

Bank Santander, through its brand Abbey for Intermediaries, has encouraged mortgage brokers to "exploit" the general insurance market, cutting premium levels in the home insurance sector in order to secure market share.

It said that, on average, only one in five homeowners purchased buildings or contents insurance when they took out a mortgage with an intermediary, which left "a massive 80% of borrowers as potential insurance customers".
