Barclay's successful appeal against the Competition Commission's rulings puts PPI debate back in spotlight

The future of the Competition Commission's (CC) plans to introduce greater competition to the Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) market have been dealt a near-fatal blow following Barclays' successful appeal against prohibiting the sale of PPI at the point of sale.

The point-of-sale issue was part of a host of measures drawn up by the CC to remedy mis-selling issues in the market. However, the whole package may now be at risk following the decision of the Competition Appeal Tribunal's (CAT)

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
