The insurer's GWP and combined ratio have also improved

Ecclesiastical's half year results have revealed a pre-tax profit of £25.7m whereas it suffered a £21.5m loss at the same point last year.

The insurer's gross written premiums were up £19.1m (9%) on 2008 at £229.9m and its overall combined ratio saw a positive appositive boost to 87.9%, in comparison to 104.5% last year.

Other key figures included:
• General business underwriting profit of £15.1m (£5.4m loss in 2008)
• Shareholders' funds remain strong at £353m
• South Essex Insurance Brokers
