ABI calls for flood defences spending to help boost economy

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has called for Chancellor, Alistair Darling, to use the Pre Budget Report (PBR) to bring forward its spending plans on vital flood defences.

Following the floods last year, the Government agreed to spend £1.5bn on flood defences between 2009 and 2011. The association said it believes speeding up this spending would boost expenditure projects, stimulating the economy while protecting more homes.
