Emmanuel Kenning asks if the insurance industry should be congratulating or chastising itself over its equal pay record between the sexes.

Research by the Chartered Management Institute has highlighted that the insurance sector is outperforming the UK average in offering equal pay for women and men, although it apparently has some way to go to achieve true equality.

The institute's 2010 National Management Salary Survey found that, in the insurance sector, the average salary for a male manager is currently £7,554 more than that of a female manager, which is considerably better than the national average of male managers taking home
