Cable's speech divides national press

The Business Secretary's speech warning of the dangers of capitalism at the Liberal Democrats conference yesterday has divided opinion in the mainstream media.

Vince Cable made a controversial speech yesterday [22 September] at the Liberal Democrats annual conference in Liverpool saying that capitalism has the ability to kill competition.

He said: "Capitalism takes no prisoners and kills competition where it can . . . I want to protect consurmers and keep prices down and provide a level playing field for small business, so we must be vigilant right across the economy - whether in the old industries of economies textbooks or the newer privatised
