Think-tank predicts economic growth but rising unemployment in the UK
A report by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) has predicted positive economic growth for the UK economy but also described a more gloomy outlook for unemployment.
According to the think-tank, the UK economy will grow by 1.1% and 2.0% over the next two years but after its recent pause, unemployment will rise again, to 2.9 million (9.2%) in 2011.
The report states that "the recovery will rely on a turnaround in the inventory cycle, as companies first slow the pace of destocking and then start to rebuild inventories."
