Employee absenteeism because of bad weather could cost employers millions, warns the Forum of Private Business

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is warning that the cost of a single day of employee absenteeism due to freezing winter conditions could be at least £230m.

The announcement follows the Met Office's warning that minimum temperatures have dropped to their lowest for 15 years, with snow expected to be between 15cm and 25cm deep in places.

The FPB made its calculation using information including the daily gross domestic product figure, anticipated vehicle breakdown levels from the AA, average
