Unemployment rate slowing

Smallest increase in unemployment figures since May 2008.

Unemployment rose 30,000 in the three months from July to September totalling 2.46 million according to the Office for National Statistics, with the jobless rate staying still at 7.8%. This was the slowest rate since May 2008.

However those out of work longer than a year rose 71,000 to 618,000, the highest level for 12 years. The number of 16 to 24 year olds out of work rose 15,000 to 943,000.
