The Confederation of British Industry and consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers' latest quarterly financial services survey has revealed the largest fall in average fees and broker commission since December 1998.

Its findings reflected a continuing decline in profits and a lower-than-expected increase in business volumes during the last three months of 2004. Profits are expected to be eroded further during the next three months.
