At the first of its nationwide roadshows, Chris Woodburn, chief
executive of the General Insurance Standards Council, revealed that the
council is preparing to admit members as early as February 2000.

However, Mr Woodburn admitted that this was "rather ambitious" and that it
would depend on the amount of feedback received following the publication
of the second consultation document. The last roadshow is scheduled for 10
November with the consultation period due to finish on 31 December.
