A director of an employment law firm has called on managers to make return to work interviews mandatory after research suggested a crack down is needed on the number of fraudulent sick days being taken by UK workers.

The research, carried out by law firm Peninsula, has shown that 17% of all company sickness is bogus, costing the UK £3.5bn each year in sick pay and loss of productivity. The number of days being taken off work fraudulently is also increasing, with the average worker now taking up
