Addressing the symptoms of underperforming staff.
Q: How do you sustain motivation when a team member is underperforming and is unlikely to reach targets?
A: Symptoms of lack of motivation and communication are consistentwith feeling under pressure. This is often due to the employee feeling
their current position and annual targets are incompatible and
unassailable.
This individual may also believe the extra effort is not worth it and will
probably go unnoticed anyhow.
The employer needs to understand how the person feels and why. Bear in
mind some people will respond, when asked, with a flood of information and
others clam up.
