The General Insurance Standards Council has lost its right to force members to only deal with other members, following an appeal by the Institute of Insurance Brokers and the Association of British Travel Agents.
The controversial ruling by the Competition Commission Appeal Tribunal, which overrules the director general of fair trading's decision earlier in the year, will leave the GISC floundering.
Under this ruling, the GISC's rule 42, which sought to force all brokers and intermediaries
