Merger and acquisition activity among the broking community has virtually disappeared and is now at its lowest level for a decade. The credit crunch, pressure on commission and the economic downturn have taken their toll and the consolidation model is under threat. The acquisition binge was made when prices for brokers were at their highest, insurers were competing over which one could pay the highest commission, money was plentiful and the economy was booming.
