Brokers targeted in phone scam

Premium rate phone lines used to dupe companies out of money.

Fraudsters using 070 numbers have been targeting insurance brokers in order to con them out of money.

The premium rate phone numbers are used by scammers who request quotes and then ask to be called back. Brokers who return the calls are then charged.

The 070 phone numbers look like mobile phone numbers, which is why brokers are more susceptible to returning these calls than other premium rate numbers.

The fraudulent calls can cost around £1 per minute and complex product requests are often used
