Which? warns consumers of "punishing" insurer charges

Consumer watchdog Which? has issued a warning to consumers over additional fees involved in renewing their car insurance policies.

According to Which?, research showed that some providers “punish loyal customers” by charging them to renew or to change details on their policies.

It claimed the providers charging the highest fees for adjusting details were Hastings Direct and 50Plus Insurance Services, which charge up to £35. On average, the Which? study revealed that making changes to policy details is likely to cost an average of £19.
