Ghost brokers ripping off thousands of motorists

Thousands of drivers could be unknowingly uninsured after purchasing fraudulent or fake cover, according to a BBC report.

Conmen, known in the industry as “ghost brokers”, operate through websites or small ads offering cheap insurance.

They target people on a budget and communities where English is not the first language.

According to the BBC, the ghost brokers will sometimes issue completely fictitious policies.

In other cases, they will apply to genuine insurers on the customer’s behalf but will alter the details so as to get the lowest possible price.
