ABI warns against ignoring Environment Agency flood risk report
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has warned that it will become more difficult and costly to insure new property developments that are constructed without regard to Environment Agency (EA) concerns about flood risk.
The cautionary statement came in response to the release of the EA's annual Development and Flood Risk report. Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance and health, said:"Despite tougher planning controls, it is worrying that during 2007 and 2008, 16 developments - including 240 homes - were given planning permission despite the Environment Agency advising against them because of the flood risk.
