Once teeming with insurers, Leicester now only has two, although it is brimming with brokers. Martin Friel takes a look at the maverick market that has made this possible

Asked where the major insurance markets in the UK are, and most will roll off the usual suspects - London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow - all of which have a strong insurer presence. By extension, most would assume that in order for there to be a thriving insurance market, there needs to be an extensive insurer presence. And they wouldn't be wrong - except they are.

Leicester is something of an anomaly. Where once there was Norwich Union (NU), Axa, General Accident, Commercial Union
