A broker, who shall remain nameless, displayed a unique staff motivation technique recently - with one member of staff anyway. The employee in question, who was involved in the firms' delegated authority underwriting, had been pestering the principal for a more appropriate job title that reflected how his role had evolved. After being badgered to the point of irritation, the broker gave in and the employee was eventually awarded the important-sounding title of 'business underwriting manager'. The broker is now a staunch advocate of this simple and cost-effective morale-boosting technique, having been amazed at how much happier his BUM is and how his BUM is noticeably more productive after the show of appreciation. Overheard hopes this incentivising method is not a pilot.
