Barry Smith, the new chief executive of Fortis Insurance, explains to Catherine Tennant why he thinks close communication with brokers is key to the company's continued success.

Commitment, consistency and continuity are, according to Barry Smith,
the three 'Cs' that lie behind the success of Fortis Insurance. And as the
new chief executive of the company, Mr Smith says he is determined that a
fourth 'C' - complacency - will not figure during his time at the helm,
thereby jeopardising all the hard work so far.


Mr Smith assumed his new role following Peter Robinson's retirement at the
end of December. Mr Robinson had held the post since 1983, when Fortis was
known as
