With 136 years of experience between them, the directors of Marcus Hearn & Co have been spotting niches and exploiting those opportunities since the 1960s, as Alex Broad finds out.
Marcus Hearn & Co was set up in Smithfield, London, on 'a wing and aprayer' by chairman Michael Green and a former colleague back in 1966,
with the help of a small overdraft from a bank.
"Things were difficult because we had virtually no capital but we started
to acquire business and launched a small photography scheme," Mr Green
explains. "Then we moved to an office on Liverpool Street - we had to
paint and decorate the office at the weekends - and stayed there for 15
