The introduction of new health and safety regulations will have wide implications for many engineering-related trades. Companies should make their brokers the first port of call, says John Sanders.
SAFed (Safety Assessment Federation), the engineering insurers' tradebody, is actively trying to promote the significance of PUWER and LOLER,
which came into force on 5 December last year. These acronyms may mean
little to most people, but, as John Caddick, chief engineer at Zurich
Engineering, points out, they affect almost every business in the
country.
"These are probably the most wide-ranging sets of regulations to come into
force since the Health and Safety at Work Act in 1974."
