Zurich, one of the insurers in the pivotal appeal case over the asbestos-related pleural plaques condition, has said the judgment draws a line under the issue of pleural plaques and sends a clear message to claims farmers.

Steve Thomas, technical claims manager, Zurich UK General Insurance, said: "The judgment draws a clear line under the issue of whether pleural plaques should be compensatable. The insurance industry exists to compensate people who have suffered an injury and not to pay out
