The UK is one of the most expensive places in Europe for motor
insurance despite low numbers of road accident fatalities, according to
research by consultants Watson Wyatt. The UK has around 60 motor
fatalities per one million inhabitants, less than half that of countries
such as Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Spain. The average cost in the
UK of a third party motor premium is around £310. Within Europe, only
Ireland and Luxembourg show higher average premiums.
