Before the industry applauds itself too loudly after the well-managed flood problems, it would do well to speculate to the future.

The insurance industry has acquitted itself well during the last four
months of seemingly constant rainfall and subsequent flooding. For once,
there have been as many good news stories in the national media about
speedy claims settlement and sympathetic support, as there have been
horror stories about claims going horribly wrong.


The industry might be inclined to sit back and congratulate itself, but it
would be wise to cast an eye ahead a few years and start to ponder where
this might be taking us
