Rating the rating agencies.

The prevalence of rating agencies seems to be resulting in more and more sensational headlines, most recently over guestimates relating to 11 September, but do these ratings do more harm than good?

You may recall that in my last article I touched upon the increasing
voice of the rating agencies and the enormous influence they have on the
market. This is yet another growth industry on the back of traditional
insurance and while I am the first to appreciate the tremendous value they
bring to the party, I would question whether we really need the constant
damaging headlines these people produce.
