Two out of three people say they would make a fraudulent claim if they could get away with it, according to research by insurer Royal & Sun Alliance.
The Association of British Insurers estimates fraudulent general insurance claims cost the industry £1bn, with 10% of motor and 15% of household claims untrue. However, a show of hands at Post Magazine's fraud conference last week put this figure nearer £2bn.
Earlier this year the ABI established an anti-fraud committee to tackle the problem
