Stick to timetables or face fines.
The Woolf reforms to civil litigation will impose strict timetables on claims handling. Shona Cronin says brokers must have the right systems in place to avoid heavy fines.
Lord Woolf's reforms to the civil litigation system take effect from26 April and are set to have a dramatic effect on claims handling in the
insurance industry.
The reforms are designed to streamline the civil litigation system by
making it more accessible, cheaper, quicker and, ultimately, more
just.
They are the result of consultation between Lord Woolf, insurers and a
variety of other interested parties and follow a series of pilot schemes
which were conducted by insurers throughout 1998.
