Insurer Royal and SunAlliance is set to axe 1000 jobs in the UK before June 2008. A spokesperson said the insurer expects around one-third of these will be in its broking division; another third in its retail division, which includes its direct offering More Th(gt)n; while the rest will come from claims and support facilities.

Bridget McIntyre, RSA's UK chief executive, said: "To achieve our growth plans we must reduce our costs, making it cheaper and easier for customers to do business with us."
