Bolton-based wholesaler Broker Direct has made a significant change in direction by buying locally based £2m gross written premium commercial broker Greenhalgh and Gregson. The move may raise eyebrows as it is the first time Broker Direct, which supplies personal, commercial and scheme insurance to 1100 brokers, the majority of which are members of the Institute of Insurance Brokers, has bought a broker.

However, it is more likely that this is the first time it has been financially strong enough
