While new entrants like the supermarkets are muscling in on the travel insurance sector, the travel agents still dominate. However, their policies are standard, so brokers must specialise, says Diane Smyth.

Slovenian Davo Karnicar made history recently, becoming the first
person to ski down Mount Everest. The 38-year-old ski instructor reached
speeds of 75 mph, travelled 12,000ft in little over five hours and passed
the corpse of a dead climber on the way down.


Whilst Karnicar's expedition was more than the average off-piste skiing
