Swinton has reported an 8% increase in motor accident claims during the recent round of tropical style downpours. The insurance broker has warned that the increase is set to continue as motorists drive too quickly and respond too slowly to the rapid build-up of road water during storms. The warning is backed by the results of recent research by Newcastle University which said that extreme rainfall had become more frequent and intense over a 40-year period in Britain.
