Banking changes may hinder lending to SMEs
The implementation of the Basel 3 regulatory framework will dramatically hinder retail bank lending to SMEs, according to the European Savings Banks Group (ESBG).
Wolters Kluwer Financial Services reported that the trade body had warned that Basel 3 does not account for the specificities and diversity of the European banking sector.
The trade body argued that it was developed for large, internationally active banks while its transposition would apply to all EU credit institutions: large and small, international and regional, retail and universal banking models, with different ownership and organisational structures.
