PPI tops list of complaints about general insurance
Complaints made to the regulator about payment protection insurance (PPI) came second only to complaints made about banking last year.
A total of 701,281 complaints were made about PPI in 2010 and there was a 63% leap in complaints in the second half of the year.
The results were revealed as the Financial Services Authority (FSA) published its complaints data for the second half of 2010. The overall number increased by 3% to 1,795,182 and complaints about what the FSA classed as ‘general insurance and pure protection’ increased by 37% to 710,678. Of this number, 63% arose from issues around advising, selling and arranging.
