Release of mobile data could infringe privacy

Freer access to mobile phone data could put consumer privacy at risk, according to a study by the Future of Identity in the Information Society (FIDIS).

According to the report, certain behavioural information could be gleaned from mobile phone data, particularly from phones with GPS capability, and used by interested parties like insurers to shed light on an individual's driving habits or lifestyle patterns, such as how often he goes to the gym or pub.

According to Stephensons Solicitors, this
