imarket has moved to quell broker fears that the soon to be launched portal may be hijacked by the direct writers - giving the public direct access to insurers.

Speaking at the Chartered Insurance Institute conference last month, Martin McLachlan, managing director of Polaris which administers the imarket initiative, assured delegates that insurers had given undertakings that the common access mechanism would only ever be available to brokers.
