Legal expenses insurance (LEI) is a relatively new offering to be developed, and is often referred to as a 'fourth generation' product after motor, liability and health and life. While the UK is at the more sophisticated end of the international LEI markets, it started late compared to countries such as Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
