Over the past five years there have been 30 fatal accidents involving people working in motor vehicle repair. On average 2,000 injuries are reported to the health and safety executive and local authorities each year. However, effective measures can be implemented to help minimise these risks.

Plant and other equipment need a risk assessment to identify potential problems. Guards on machinery require regular maintenance and eye protection should be provided. Statutory inspection should be applied
