Compensation culture is such a hot topic within insurance that it hasbeen blamed for all the ills of society, from declining moral standards to
the demise of Independent Insurance.
Cases such as Callery v Gray and Sarwar v Alam have confirmed certain
principles that are unlikely to be reversed. In order to move forward, all
sectors of the business must embrace these principles and plan
accordingly.
Insurers must reserve to allow for the reasonable costs of all
claimants.
