Prudential, the UK's second biggest insurer, has faced criticism from shareholders and the financial markets after unveiling plans for a £14bn takeover of American General.
Shares in Prudential fell by 14% to 772p as investors expressed their concern that the company had offered almost half its equity in the combined group to secure American General when US economic growth is slowing.
