Specialist knowledge is essential in the motorsports market where premiums have shot up and there is little insurance market capacity, says Nicolle Farthing.

Finding cover for a scaffolder with a bad claims record might seem
easy when compared to placing racing cars that travel at speeds of 180
miles per hour. But brokers specialising in motorsports argue that it is a
relatively good risk for underwriters.


Justin Everitt, managing director at Everitt Boles, says both cases face
the same problems in obtaining cover, with hikes in the cost of insurance,
a restrictive market and lack of competition from underwriters.
